Lindbergh was nailed (but not punished) for some pretty massive tax evasion involving stock swaps and money laundering connected (at least) to Transcontinental Air Transport. Hauptmann was supposedly "dealing" in stocks (probably laundering money as a front for others. Remember, this is all BEFORE FDR's SEC is set up, headed by Joe Kennedy.) Lindbergh did NOT want the ransom money traced. He didn't even want the serial numbers recorded. Was Hauptmann laundering money/shadow trading stocks for Lindbergh BEFORE the "kidnapping?" Whether he knew Lindbergh directly, or not? I also think it's a little fishy that Lindbergh just waltzes into the world's most advanced bio research lab and shows them all how to build a perfusion pump AND a blood centrifuge. He was paid pretty hefty "consulting" fees--often in the form of free stock--just for the use of his name. or information he had picked up from hanging around and testing competitors' machines. Why not give him a couple of free patents? The Rockefeller Institute had CLOSE ties to the Karlsruhe Institute. They were on the cutting edge of blood chemistry AND turbulence/fluid dynamics research. Funny how Lindbergh suddenly comes along and just leapfrogs them out the--if you'll pardon the expression--clear blue sky.

Here's something else. You already know that Hauptmann's letter to Condon was postmarked from Brooklyn. Soooo...how did Jafsie know to place his ad in the rinky-dink Bronx Home News? By New York standards, the Bronx is 1000 miles from Brooklyn. I mean, why not the New York Times?
